Airport growth and land-use decisions around the Prescott Regional Airport (PRC) have resulted in extensive discussions about necessary airport protections. Community Development and Airport staff have collaborated to produce a preliminary draft of the Airport Vicinity Overlay district, which will incorporate several FAA-based regulatory processes, as well as underscoring existing provisions of the Land Development Code, in addressing both residential and commercial growth near the airport. We anticipate that this draft is likely to undergo extensive changes as it works its way through the public process at Planning and Zoning Commission hearings.

The City first started discussing this item in July 2022. In August 2022, the Planning and Zoning Commission will continue to offer input. Discussions will continue into August and beyond, until the City Council votes on a final version of the ordinance. PAAR will continue to monitor this issue.
